Kids Kilt / Outfit

So I am attending a wedding in the UK in June 2015 and I am currently pulling together my outfit, but I would like my son to also wear the Farquharson tartan. I don't really want to spend a huge amount on getting any outfit for him (he is 12 and will outgrow it quickly), so I am just looking for advice on where I could either buy or rent an inexpensive kilt.

I may have some fabric in Farquarson. It is not great fabric, but you might persuade your son to wear it "great kilt style" by pleating it and belting- or you can have someone run up a kilt. I have seen boys in all manner of kilts, nobody much looks at the workmanship. I will look for the fabric and post a pic.

What size is the lad? Some of the kids we get in at 12 can sometimes fit into the smaller adult kilts!

I think this would be a great option as I know a good seamstress and I am sure she could run up something that would be close enough to a Kilt.. Do you know if it is the Modern version of the tartan ?

farquharson 2.jpg As you can see, the colors are modern. This is an acrylic or polyester blend- it feels nice and wooly and the piece I have- approximately 6 yards, 60 " wide, weighs about 4 pounds. Careful viewers will note that the pattern is slightly, but distinctly rectangular- the windowpanes are about 3/8" longer one way than the other. Oh, and the fabric does not have a selvedge.

All in all, I should think it would work very well for a young kilt wearer - sturdy, good enough, but nothing special... PM for more details, if you like.
