Formal or dress sporran
Hi all
I think this is where I want to ask this question.
What do you keep in your dress sporran? I ask because I'm trying to decide on a possible new sporran for formal wear. Do I need a full bag or is a ticket pocket adequate for ID, credit card , few bank notes and keys? I would appreciate hearing opinions especially from those that have had both types.
Cheers David

My swinging six that I bought 2nd hand from an XMarker here has a bushel basket on the back of it. Made by L & M in Nova Scotia.

Bob uses a little device called a "smallet" that holds license, one card, a few bills. Easier than things floating loose. Keys and phone complete the needs for a typical formal evening out.

I tend to put as little as possible in my dress sporrans. If I am going to something formal, I debulk my wallet and put it in my jacket pocket or sporran. If I can get by with less - drivers license, credit card, $ - these will fit anywhere.

I usually carry a small beard/hair comb from Kent, my Swiss army knife, key fob for our vehicle, eye glass cleaning square, my smallet with ID, debit card, and a few bank notes for tips and etc., and not much else besides the tickets for whatever event we are attending. Sometimes I carry my cellular telephone, and sometimes not (Samsung Galaxy III which is pretty thin). I carry this in a sporran from L & M.

I keep everything I would otherwise have in my pockets, which out at a Highland Games would mean
-wallet
-car keys
-cell phone
-camera
Mine is so roomy that I can, in addition to the above things, put in a bottle of water.
Just to see if I could do it, I put a large bottle of wine in it (nothing else though!)
Here it is (Yours Truly, on the left)

In any formal attire I go "light" which is what I surmise will also be for a formal sporran. ID/Lic, CCard, minimized keys, some real currency. Not as if I'm heading out the door for a day of errands. And the phone, which are so slim now anyway that jacket pocket or sporran will suffice.
In fact, sometimes I wonder when out formal why I have all that "other stuff of cards and fobs and.." every day.

David,
In my day sporran, I carry my wallet, keys, and Smartphone.
In my formal sporran (which is just a bit smaller in capacity than my day sporran), I just carry my wallet and keys. I don't take my phone, since I'm always accompanied to formal events by my wife (and she always has her phone).
