mystery Glengarry
A Scottish vintage shop on Ebay is selling this unusual Glengarry.
I can't remember seeing the combination of claret body and Lovat dicing before, very interesting.
Also interesting are the badges. What do they represent? Are they original to the Glengarry?

Almost looks like something worth grabbing if you're into historical bits and pieces, and find out later what it is. It sure looks original and authentic!

The badge appears to have a Khanjar on it which is the National symbol of Oman.

I was going to suggest "somewhere" in the Middle East. Jordan, or, Oman perhaps?

The cap badge is the Royal Guard of Oman. Here they are with maroon Glengarrys on but there is no lovat dicing in this era. There are also pics of them in Balmoral Bonnets.

Thanks guys. I didn't make the connection, because I've often seen them wearing red Balmorals.
In Nathan's photo the Glengarries look like they have red & white dicing. This Glengarry is strange in having Lovat green dicing.
Here's the plaid brooch for the Royal Guard of Oman band, same badge

Don't know if this will work. I saw them in Glasgow in '13. Different Glengarry and Plaid for different sections.
Yeah, that'll do. They wore their red Balmorals competing at North Berwick. Dress uniforms doing this public event on Buchanan Street.

An interesting mystery and it would be nice to get to the bottom of it. But thanks to those gents who posted pictures.
I have noticed that in the Indian Army (present-day) the pipers wear plaids and trousers, and I should imagine the same holds for the pipers of Pakistan and the rest of the Middle East.

Great pic! Interesting how some pipers have Lovat dicing and others, maroon.

Not sure if this has anything to do with anything, but, the sergeants appear to have Lovat green and the the lower ranks seem to have maroon.
