Very well stated, Steve. I agree completely with what you are saying. There are however, people that would not agree. I won't go far as to call them "kilt Nazi's" but I think you know who I mean. People that takes kilts, or for that matter any subject, WAY TOO SERIOUS. My wife would not do anything that would be considered inappropriate or disrespectful. Much of what you stated, I told her as well. She asked me to post this question in order to get a wider point of view on the subject. A appreciate your very knowledgeable responses as well as those of others who took the time to respond.

In my experience, ladies know exactly what length and style of skirt suits them as an individual, for a particular occasion and it is an extremely hazardous pastime for a male to even venture an opinion on the matter.

Once it was acceptable for women to show their ankles most pleated skirts were cut 27 inches in length as that is half the fabric width, so it makes the most of the material you have. The waistband was made from a strip cut off one end of the fabric - you could tell as it was not quite the same size sett as the garment, one cut across the warp and the other across the weft.
There really are no kilt police....

Whether it is useful or not, the only thing I can add to the above post is that it may also depend to some degree upon the shape of the person in question.
I always feel it is unfortunate that lasses in pipe bands are required to wear a kilt, made as they are for men.
This makes a lot of ladies look very square.
A longer skirt would in many cases look more elegant And alluring!
The same goes re. the present question;
If it looks good and is elegant, the length matters not.
Your wife has no need to worry about this, just do as she sees fit and if it looks well, Everyone will be happy!

Quite right, Micric. A lass I know is pipe corporal of a local band, and wears a man’s kilt because she can’t afford to have one made to fit her. I believe she’s saving up her pennies, but that might just be because she plans to marry the pipe major.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.
