That's one reason I hope kilts never get too popular. WalMart would corner the market and kill off the small kiltmakers.

Yes! As a matter of fact they do, that and feighn fright at the "glare" off the whiteness of exposed flesh. That and the inevitable comparison to the UPS driver uniform. Since I can't wear my kilt at work I rebell by only wearing shorts. I get more harassment in shorts than I do in my kilt. Shorts are far less imposing than a kilt so the weak minded feel braver about accosting me.

A question I have been meaning to ask for some time: what exactly IS Wal-Mart? I understand that it is a retail area, but is is one large department store (a sort of Main Street Nieman Marcus or Bloomingdales) or is it a number of different retail outlets under one roof? To my knowledge we do not have Wal-Mart here in the United Kingdom, but you guys over there are always mentioning the name. I am curious, that's all!
Ham in France you are no doubt familiar with what they call the "HIPPO" Stores??? That's a Walmart. Next time I go I will get some shots of the inside for you so you can get a better idea.]
Blu Walmarts are great places to go to show the kilt. a nice cross section of common folk and lot's of them. I enjoy going to Walmart kilted as I figure some of those men are good candidates to be Kilted. I actually saw a young man in a Skirt in a Walmart near here, and he was not doing the cross fem thing, he actaully looked quite masculine. Not my choice of garb but no one would say he was cross dressing because of how he looked. I am staying with Just Kilts and there are enough heads turned at walmrt with that.
Very Nice Shot by the way thanks for sharing it!

Many thanks to you both, Andrew and Blu. It sounds frightening in many respects. I guess we don't have stores that large here in the UK, at least not down South. Some of our grocery supermarkets (eg: Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose) are selling cosmetics, Videos and CDs, and small ranges of minor electrical goods (kettles, toasters, etc.), but I haven't heard of any branching out much further than that. We have DIY superstores such as Homebase and B&Q which take care of the timber, paints, tools and garden equipment. Maybe they'll all merge one day (hopefully after I'm long gone!)
Rhino, I had no idea that ASDA was part of Wal-Mart. Mind you, although I know of ADSA I have never been to one of their stores. I'm not really sure where their nearest branch would be - possibly Brighton or Southampton (30 - 50 miles away).
Thanks for all the info.

Thank you for that JohnAllen. No, I cannot say I 've heard of "Hippo" stores in France, but then I've not been there for something like 18 or 20 years - at least, not into any sizeable towns! I've popped over the Channel a couple of times to stock up at rural wine warehouses on the northern coast in recent years, but that's all. Crazy really - France is only about 65 miles away from where I am sitting, and we can drive through the Channel Tunnel but I've not done that yet!
Please don't go to a lot of trouble - you'll probably need to get prior permission to take photos inside the store. I can imagine what a large warehouse-like retail store will be!

Wal-Mart is so efficient that their profit margin is a nickel foe every dollar of product they move.

My daughter works part time at Wal-Mart and quite enjoys it. It's a true statement that there is a wide cross section of people shop there.... including lots of eccentrics (like me ). According to their security, while kilts are not an every day event, they are not surprised to see one or two a week come thru the front doors. She saw someone in the store a couple of weeks ago in a Utilikilt. So now I know, (unlike Tigger), I'm not the only one!

You may not be the only one Blu, but you're still a wonderful thing.

Ham that explains it. Hippo meaning large of course and you can get everything there. I first heard of them when I was there in 1994 for the celebration of the Liberation Of Paris. My cousins there explained it in the terms that sound like a Myer store in the US which is close to what a Walmart is.

Ham,
Wal-Mart is in the UK, but not under that name. Walmart own ASDA, but ASDA supermarkets in the UK dont look anything like Wal-Marts in the US. If you can imagine one of the large B&Q stores, but with typical supermarket wares plus general goods on the shelves and the B&Q name on the outside peplaced by WAL-MART, you would have a reasonable idea of what a Wal-Mart store looks like.
