I purchased them from Matt Newsome when he worked at the Scottish Tartan Museum (http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/). They were nice quality and price.

I agree with Steve - I buy from Highland Xpress. I think the quality of the buckles is really good, and they come in brass and silver. Straps are available in black in a variety of widths and in brown in wide.

I've never had any issues with quality. I made my band kilt years ago, and I wear it for parades, performances, or competitions once or twice a week from May through September, and I've never had to replace a single strap or buckle.

If it is a kilt, a quality fabric and a good length of it then it fastens on the right, at least in the UK it does. The kilts I wore for school fastened on the right and, having found a few images from knitting patterns and watched old films it seems that they all fastened on the right as well.

However, I suspect that there are places and societies where it would be shocking for a woman to wear something which was so wrong - in the eyes of the beholders, so it would be better to make it acceptable and proper.

Anne - with all respect, I really really hope we don't head down this rabbit hole again!!!

Hi, Mary, and welcome to X Marks from the bottom end of Africa.
How about putting up an introductory post on our Kilt Board Newbie forum?
