Now reading The Chronicle of Jeremiah Goldswain, 1820 Settler. The document on which it is based (a handwritten book kept in the university library in Grahamstown) is well known among scholars, but little known to the general public. It is a well told tale in the first person by a man who came to settle in the Albany district of the Eastern Cape in 1820 and had a good many adventures before he wrote his memoir in 1858.
The last book I read was titled New Hope for ADHD in children and adults. A practical guide. The author is a South African psychologist and psychometrist who has been treating ADD and ADHD for many years, and has good practical advice for parents, teachers and educators, as well as introducing a new form of treatment which has proved most helpful. I certainly found it enlightening, since I have ADD, as do my son and son-in-law, and my father seems to have had it, too.
Before that I was reading The Frackers: The Outrageous Story of the New Energy Revolution by Gregory Zuckerman. Aside from giving a pretty full account of this relatively little-known development in the oil and gas industries, it will be useful for South Africans as there is a full-scale debate under way as to whether the inland regions of the old Cape Province, known as the Karoo, should be opened up to frackers.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.

Read Unbroken overs the holidays in anticipation of seeing the movie. Now on The Boys in the Boat about the University of Washington crew team who won the gold at the 1936 Olympic Games. Both very good reads.

Due to a legal issue (that is dragging a lame excuse around in the muck) I am perusing the MS Codes of 1972, Sections 15, 42, 97 etc, and comparing them to the standing rulings of law. I'll happily trade for anyone else's list and provide a comprehensive report (including illustrations if desired) to any one that will swap. Note: adverse possession is not a new subject in literature. In comparison, Dante's Inferno was an easy read; at least you knew where you stood on any level.

"The Screwtape Letters" by C. S. Lewis. It's a thought-provoking book like his "Mere Christianity", but I don't have any thoughts at this time to share with you.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I'm reading, A History of the World in 6 Glasses, by Tom Standage. I got this for Christmas, and I'm finding it more intriguing than first thought. Bread and beer, everyone!

@mookien, It`s been years since I read those books, but I recall being impressed by both of them. Might have to pick them up again

They sure make one stop and think about how they "think/feel" about some very fundamental things in life. I also very much like his "Planet" trilogy, ... and, of course, Narnia.

I'm nearing the end of The Tawny Man trilogy, a set of novels following the adventures of a royal bastard in a fantasy setting. This is the second trilogy in the series, with another yet to go: http://www.robinhobb.com/novels/
