Smile I'm having my first kilt made!

Following my recent post about the kilt I bought from Lidl supermarket I decided I wanted to buy a traditional all hand stitched kilt. Having ordered my tartan from Dunans Castle its now with the Scottish tailors. They are http://www.macdonaldkiltmakers.co.uk/

They reckon it takes a couple of weeks to make so looking forward to receiving it and posting up a photo.

So here is the final result, my lovely Dunans Rising kilt made from 8 yards of pure wool from Bute, 6000+ hand stitches and about 18 hours hand crafted work. I think it is beautiful kilt and great to see the proceeds will help eventually restore Castle Dunans.

The waistcoat came first actually, and was considerably cheaper than the kilt! A lady in Norfolk, England made the waistcoat for approximately £30. I'm not sure about it though....it breaks the 'no tartan above the waist' rule. I worry I may be drifting into the 'tartan man' territory.

When is to much tartan to much tartan??? How to gage it? I mean in this photo I have tartan flashes, kilt and waistcoat......is this to much? Or does it work? What are the best ways to gage it?

MAYBE lose the flashes. Nothing wrong with the waistcoat!

    Perhaps try solid coloured flashes.

    Looking fine!

Perhaps if you wore a tie in the same tartan it would be too considered too much, actually I know it would be!
