Neat tartan app
Houston Kiltmakers has a nifty tartan designer app. You can download it in the App Store for iPad and iPhone. It's a lot of fun and I can see how challenging tartan design can be!

Glad you like it! I know what you mean, you can make a design in a few minutes, but to get the sett and colours perfect it takes a while to fine tune everything!.
You can find it free on the App store here. We only have an iPhone version at the moment, but looking to get an Android version at some point.

That app is awesome! When I was designing the New World Irish tartan, I did it using an online tool. This is far more responsive because it doesn't rely on the vagaries of my internet connection. I'm looking forward to playing with this!
As ScottishStuart mentioned, it is only the iPhone version, which works on my iPad mini, but doesn't go full-screen.
Thanks for the heads up, @TheOfficialBren

Downloading as we speak! This will be fun to play with during my commute to and from work (via express bus, I will not be driving). Thanks for the heads up, Bren!
Cheers,

I love it! An Android version would be sweet! I'm thinking that the Lowland family Colbert might quit borrowing their Highland mother's/grandmother's tartan and have one in their own right.

I've been playing around with this app, and it's a lot of fun! Thus far, however, I'd consider it more of a toy than a tool... maybe that was the intention, but I'd love to see updates that would make it a legit tartan design app. For now, this is useful for sketching an idea, but I would go elsewhere for anything more than that.
Here's my wishlist:
- Allow more different thread counts. The minimum increment should be two, not four.
- Fix a bug that sometimes makes lines of the same thread count look like they are different sizes.
- Allow swapping colours in edit mode. Currently the app only allows one to change the size of a line. Alternatively (or in conjunction) make it possible to drag colours to rearrange them.
- Offer text export of sett code (i.e., colours and thread counts) so that one could have it woven. Right now it just exports an image.
- Create an iPad native version. The present iPhone version runs on my iPad, but not in full screen resolution.

The Android app would be the deal sealer for me to get another Houston's kilt.
