Rick Y the handle is cherry and the black portions are epoxy. I debated on what to use and how to keep it looking good. I also needed something I could carve and sand. Spent a bit of time at my Ace hardware store looking at all the different epoxy type cements and came up with the black/charcoal grey. Just used Watco oil so it has a matte finish. I could make it shiny but I dont care for the overly glossy.
