Are you sure he's wearing it high enough?
Just checking as it would be a pain to realise that the sewing of all that hem was not necessary due to your dad wearing it at the same level as the waist of modern trousers.

I can do the job for him, no problem.

I am. I am located near Chorley, Lancs. I am good enough that I recently made five Black Watch kilts for the Chorley Pipe Band.

Hello Folks, thank you so much for your replies. He is definitely wearing it where it should be, I have made sure of that being the stickler that I am. He would "only" need it taking up a few inches. How much are we looking at price wise plus potential pandp.

    Kind regards

    Gareth

It would depend on the method, a hem at the bottom or shortened down from the top.

My local alterations shop in Matlock will hem a kilt for around £10. They do an excellent job using a machine designed for doing blind hems mainly on trousers but can obviously be utilised for kilts/skirts/dresses. Any local tailor should also have this sort of facility. If you are talking shortening from the top then it is a different issue.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
