tpa , I think I can probably guess the ebay seller . I too bought one like this and returned it . They adverstised it as an 8 yd but mine was only a 5 yd . Once I noticed the weight difference ( 5 yd versus 8 yd ) and the fact that it was hemmed , I sent it back to them .

Thanks Mike. There was so much material, I did not think to measure it, but it comes out at 7.6yds, which is fine by me. I also did not think I could return it as it had been taken up, though whether why only ½" I'm not sure. Anyway for a 7.6yd woollen kilt, even after I've paid my local sewing shop £15 to hem it and adjust the edge taper of the under apron to compensate for my non-standard shape, I don't think it will be a bad price for a 100% wool kilt, albeit not made to measure. I trust it will look passable when finished and the pleats repressed as required. Got to be an improvement on the acrylic casuals I wear for knocking around in daily.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
