I agree with Bubba but I think it would be prudent to leave the Sgian Dubh at home where it's nice and safe. Be sure though if the Secret Service needs that particular presentation of your anatomy to do it in true Braveheart style!

Think you have a point JohnAllen, hasn't been that long since the nut in a kilt disrupted the Olympics. I'm sure that's turned kilted folks into some sort of a profile...sad.
Isn't there some sort of an advance coordinator that can be asked?

I think if you wear the kilt, it will be ok. If you don't wear it, you might feel like you let yourself down.

I say wear the kilt JohnAllen, do not dress casual and be accomadating to the requests of the Secret service. They are not going to be the ones who will give you problems.

Hey, if a former head of the FBI could wear a dress (womens clothing) , I can't see reason you should not be able to wear kilt without undue attention.

Some of The Presidents Men Wear Kilts!
Well, Kilted Knights in Sharp Pleats and Armored Sporrans..
I wore the Kilt! It was not leaning that way until just a short while before I had to make the hour drive. but I just couldn't resist.
I had decided when I went to bed last night that the kilt would stay home but when dawn came and I put it on for my morning walk, well you guys know the feeling.
When I got there it was dusk and about 200 volunteers were assembled The Presidents advance team was standing before us. Most of the volunteers were in the stands, I was on the ground right in front of them.
It was a mixed crowd of young high school kids through men in there mid 60s , Men, women, girls and boys in the stands behind me and a couple other gents. I was the only person in the whole crowd not wearing trousers!.
Man I felt a little bit like the emperor that realized his new clothes were no clothes at all! I was "almost" wishing I was wearing trousers but then the reality of the wonderful sense that I am man enough to wear a kilt and how comfortable it was took over.
I realize that not everyone was looking at me all the time but I know every person in the place saw me when I came in. You know, when you come into a quiet setting last and all those eyeballs click as their heads turn. You see I was a bit late, got caught in traffic.. It was a bit challenging for a minute but quite frankly I never really wavered as the confidence I had prior to this bolstered me and I knew that I could not show any weakness at that point. I was just a few feet from those advance team folks and the SS Agent SO no way to cowar now!!
Then it happened...... just after the main guy gave some intros to the other advance team members and secret service people so we would know who we were working with, there was this tall guy with the advance team, must have been 6.5 feet from Virginia, he started walking right toward me..... stuck out his hand to shake mine and said.. What Clan?
Whew.... Boy was that a strengthening moment! Now I felt 7 ft tall myself. He asked me if I was wearing a UtiliKilt.. I thought wow this guy knows about them He also new of the Amerikilts which I was wearing. ( Bet he lurks here )
Anyhow after a a few short moments of exchanging clan info - (He is a McDougle) and some kilt small talk he went back to join the other tem members. I was set for the night now!
After that I got a couple of questions and maybe even a convert amoung the other volunteers I have been working with. He said he would try mine on election nighjt after he had a couple bravery drinks. He is taller but his waist is the right size to fit my kilt.. I will see to it he gets brave enough .... without the sauce..
What a great night.. Glad I wore it.. Thanks for your input ALL of you...
200 more people exposed to Kilted Men!
I won't be able to wear my Kilt for the Presidents visit because I am working security but I have this moment to savor... And.... The next event is right on the heals of this one... Gen. Tommy Franks and Senator Bob Dole are going to be in Ohio for another event and I will be there working that event too. Just might Kilt them two also....

Good going John. See? no need to be timid. After this you should have no problem wearing a kilt anywhere you want without hesitation.

JohnAllen,
You name dropper you
Most people of political bent usually do not care, as I too am finding out. You wore the kilt proudly and it shows, you have been a great kilt ambassador!

Thanks Glen, I really don't want to be a name dropper and I know you are saying that tounge in cheek. I am just a nobody in these events, but a nobody with very unusual opportunities for someone of my standing. These events are tooooo high profile to NOT share with my kilted friends here at X, so I hope none of you think I am bragging. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time..
