I've only been a member since last fall and have been extremely pleased by the amount of searchable information and current guidance provided by 'the rabble'. I second (third, fourth?) the X-Kilt idea. I have limited ability myself but I think even I could manage it. perhaps your M-I-L can be of assistance and guidance.
I started with a traditional but recently acquired a Freedom Kilts casual that has become my kilt for daywear.
