NEW - Top Stitched 8 Yard Kilt
Guys and Gals,
After much R & D (and taking a construction cue from some of our Scottish peers), we are adding a new kilt to our lineup. The Top Stitched 8 Yard kilt.
We've been asked for our Premier 8 Yard Kilts, but with our rush option (out the door in 3 weeks). We've never offered them with a rush b/c they take so long to make that they must be scheduled into production. Looking critically at our process of kilt construction, the longest part of the construction process in a Premier 8 Yard kilt is the sewing of the pleats inside out. That literally takes up 45% of the time in producing the kilt.
Well, after making and testing a few for store inventory and for store employees, we've come up with a design that STILL HAS the same internal construction bits of our Premier kilts, but we top stitch the pleats (like on our 5 yarders) to save time and allow us to offer the kilts at a lower pricepoint (AND have a rush option available).
Without further ado, I give you our Top Stitched 8 Yard kilt:

Just the close up shot of the pleats I have above. From 10 feet, you can't really tell it's top stitched, so I took close up photos.

Nice.
BTW, I was trying to add one of these to my wish list on your site, but when I click on the star to add it to my wish list I get the following:
An error occurred while adding item to wishlist: Option validation failed to add product to cart.

I get that same error. I'll put our development team right on it. :-)

Where are my glasses?
I caint even tell from the close ups! Does this mainly effect the structural integrity (a lot... a little?), or is it mostly just aesthetic? Just curious...

It does not affect the structural integrity at ALL. The internal construction is still effectively the same (though we figured out a way to machine sew a bit of the lining, speeding up that part of our process a bit as well). If anything, top stitching may actually help the integrity a tiny bit since the back tacking at the bottom of the fell on each pleat is going through 3 layers of cloth, not 2.
It is 100% an aesthetic difference.
