Wow! I don't mind hand sewing but seeing what you have achieved makes me want to try machine stitching...wait...I have to finish what I've started...darn...no I mean shucks - can't afford to have any UFOs (UnFinished Objects).

Beautifully done, Rocky. I'm sure that you have filled a niche...many will love the 3 weeks-out-the-door option. Waiting is so hard to manage when you are drooling copiously...

I don't understand. Are you referring to pleats which are machine-stitched on the reverse side, then turned, so that no stitching shows? A friend got an 8-yard heavyweight kilt online like that. From a few inches away you couldn't tell it wasn't a handstitched kilt.

Correct. And that type of sewing (inside out) takes about 10 to 15 min per pleat. The images of the pleats above in this thread are TOP stitched, so if you look closely, you CAN see the stitching (red thread was used).

How long does it take an experienced kiltmaker to sew one pleat? I saw Elsie Stuehmeyer sew a pleat at amazing speed, just a couple minutes it seemed. (Of course few people have that much experience.)

Not sure how long it takes Elsie as she hand sews the pleats and we machine sew them, but since we pin each pleat about 6 times (inside out), it does take 10 to 15 min. I think we qualify as experienced after 12 years in business.
