It was chilly and rainy at the NTIF yesterday, but it was a lot of fun. It was also my first chance to meet some other X-Markers in person, Steve and BD. They both got a couple pics taken of the three of us. At last year's festival I didn't even own a kilt yet, so it was a much different experience perusing the vendor booths after having received some great education from the Rabble for the past 11 months.
I also had hoped to see my friend who is the lead drummer for the North Texas Caledonian Pipes and Drums, but he was only with them Friday and Saturday (they still sounded great). If you're into Celtic Music and haven't heard of Carlos Núñez I’d encourage you to check him out. He’s from Galatia (in Spain) and plays recorder and gaita (Galatian pipes). His band did take advantage of some technology to enhance the fullness of their sound, but it was a very interesting blend of traditional styles. He’s a world class musician and performer, and he also invited Piper Jones as well as some local pipers (from the NCPD) and Irish dancers to join him during portions of his set. Cool show. Looking forward to next year’s festival already.
