    Tenmiles, if you (or your significant other) like the look of tartan flashes, by all means wear them. You will not be breaking any rules. I don't really care for them myself, but I have worn them on occasion because my sweetie (carolinanan117) made them for me and she likes them. Usually, I wear the red flashes she made for me.
