Hi there!
Hi, I'm a new member from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I was recently on a vacation over in England, Ireland and Scotland, when I decided to purchase a kilt there! Over the time of a few months, I've also purchased, a sporran, pin, the hose, flashes, ghillie brogues, belt & buckle, and sgian dubh, which is rather hard to do, considering how I'm still quite young (only 14) and my income is reasonably low!
I'm a quarter scottish, with my great grandfather immigrating to Canada from Glasgow. His background was MacGregor clan, and I've got all the MacGregor 'paraphernia', so to speak. I wear my kilt around with pride, and I don't think I've ever seen many people wearing a kilt here, especially someone my age. Except for on one occassion, all the feedback I've gotten from it is incredibly positive, and it's a bit of a self confidence boost to be wearing it, but not to mention incredibly comfortable!
Anyways, it looks like a really nice community here, hope to be posting more! See ya!

Pretty impressive! I wish I would have discovered how awesome wearing a kilt is at age 14. Might have kept out of some trouble too. Keep wearing your kilt with a smile on your face, and by the time you are 21 maybe we can giggle at the guys still wearing pants.
How do your friends react seeing in a kilt? Are they kilted?

Hello and welcome from Ontario! It's nice to see folks from your age group posting for 2 reasons. 1. We get to share in the experiences of wearing a kilt from a youthful perspective and, 2. You now have a resource for answering questions and asking opinions. I often wish that I had discovered the kilt much younger in my life. Don't ever let the weak minds of the world discourage you. Be true to it and proud of it, and it will add much joy to your life. 8)
cheers,
blu

thank you all for the warm welcome!
None of my friends are kilted, no, but all of my friends have been very encouraging about it, and frankly I think a few are a bit jealous!
There's been a few people who've heard about it and said it's 'gay', but I really don't care. They're just missing out on the joys of wearing a kilt.

Welcome to the board! Glad you are enjoying your kilt.
As to the "gay" comment, I wish I had been that mature at 14, and handled it as well as you have!
I agree that your friends are missing out. They are letting others stop them from doing what they want.

Man, I'm about to turn green with envy and it won't match any of my kilts I didn't discover the pleasure and freedom of wearing a kilt until just after my 53rd birthday. Wish I had found out at your age!
Welcome and enjoy.
