Eyeing my 2nd kilt with the questions
Yes, I just got my American Heritage Semi, yet I want a second kilt now.
I'm eyeing USAF (Air Force) Tartan Casual.. I wonder which is better when it comes to jean wrist or true waist when it comes to the USAK casual kilts? So far I feel so comfortable wearing a kilt at true waist, and I'm leaning forward to use the same measurements I had for my first kilt for the USAF Casual too. However, I'd like to hear the others' opinions.

If you feel comfortable at true waist stick with it, especially once you decide to get a wool kilt. True waist does feel so much better IMHO. I have 3 casual and 1 semi-traditional and 2 wool kilts from USAK all measured for true waist.

I'm not sure either way yet, but as with most things... if it isn't broke, don't fix it. If you like it at the true waist, I'd say do the next one the same. I think they look better at the true waist myself.

I think tartan kilts look better at the true waist. If it`s comfortable there, I say stick with it.

There seem to be two interpretations to your question--1) is it "better" to wear a casual kilt at the jeans waist or 2) will a casual kilt fit your true waist as well as your trad kilt?
I guess, the first approach is a matter of opinion, but I would say the answer to the second is yes. For me, I used the same measurements for my USAK casual kilt as I did for my Matt Newsome trad kilt. While I'm very happy with the fit of the casual kilt in almost every way.....the Velcro works just fine at my true waist (and since I usually wear a sweater or vest, a belt doesn't seem necessary)....the one thing I will say is there is a slightly shallower reverse pleat and I will probably add an inch to the waist next time so the aprons overlap a bit more to compensate.

You can also split the difference. I have one USAK casual and, even though I thought I'd measured it for jeans waist (at my hip bones), it actually fits me better at the knees when worn a tad higher, maybe 1/2 to 1 inch below the navel.
It turns out I like wearing the casual kilt there; it's low but not cinched under my love handles.
I wear my 16oz wool kilt at my true waist, about an inch above my navel with the top of the kilt touching my lowest ribs.
Comfort wise they're both fine. I like both kilts and happily wear either, depending on what I'm doing.

My "dress" kilts are a 5-yard wool from USAKilts (Celtic Nations) and an 8-yard Pakistani kilt (Black Watch) worn at true waist. However, my most-often-worn kilts (very comfortable) are my USAKilts casual (American Heritage) and my AmeriKilt (black), both worn at jeans waist. I tend to wear these just about anywhere I would wear jeans or shorts - and they are worn a lot.

When I was young, I observed that all the "old men" (forty years and older) wore their pants high up on their bodies. Now that I am an old man, I discovered that the weight of clothes pushing down on my hip bones is uncomfortable all day long. The fix for me are kilts at true waist cut and design.
The moral is, wear your kilts the way you want to before you get old.

For what it's worth, I have a causal that I wear at true (well, close to) -I find it accessories more flexibly, but then again my original kilt is a tank.

It took me just about the same amount of time for my second kilt (which was two kilts ago). Personally, I am true waist, but it's a matter of what you think will work for your kilt wearing activities. For me, my casual is at the true waist mostly because I like the consistency of wearing my kilts at the same height. Which ever you decide, make sure you order the correct size belt loops for either a standard or kilt belt if you wear a belt.
