I have some really nice belts, but am never sure how best to wear them with a sweater ? Wearing the belt over the sweater may look odd ? Tucking the sweater in ? Just forget the belt or let the sweater cover it up ?

    Forget the belt...

    'Aye', forget the belt.
I also find my small collection of sweaters/jumpers work well with the kilts by simply letting them fall and crumple as they will. Perhaps, though, the OP is seeking a smooth and uncrumpled look. For that, you might consider a men's wear shop that provides short/reg/tall sizing in its jackets and sweaters. Might fill the need and while perhaps a bit more expensive than a common sweater likely less than a custom knitted.

I wear a variety of pullovers with my kilt regularly, its my standard smart informal dress I suppose and I don't really think about it much. I just put it on over my kilt belt if I happen to be wearing one, pull it down to about sporran height(I think we tend to wear sporrans rather higher in Scotland) and just "blouse out" the surplus.

I have also never really had a problem with my sweater... I usually just toss on the sweater and let it be.

Sounds about right to me - because that's what I do. My good sweaters are wool knit pullovers with zippered V-neck. They look good - so says my wife and her sister - with everything from my USAKilts 5-yard wool (Celtic Nations) to my very casual black AmeriKilt.

My sweaters are wool as well. So there is a natural compatibility with the kilt. Perhaps they have shrunk in the torso over the years? I suspect not, but one never knows. Even my newer sweaters seem to be just right.

To be honest, I think my sweaters hit at the perfect spot when wearing my kilt. I nearly lament the warmer summer weather since I can't wear a sweater with my kilt! (I know, crazy right?)

Where did you get this sweater!? I love it. The old five button brown wool Army sweater was one of the best things ever. Putting protective patches on one like a Woolly Pulley is a great improvement. I absolute need a couple of these.

I like the ventilation option the henley or quarter zip styles offer.

They are both from LLBean. All wool. The commando comes in other colors and vest, henley, and crew styles. The other is a waterfowl sweater.
