It's an odd subject. My son was adopted (people didn't accept or admit that he is a good man and I approved of him as a dad for my son) and faced the name changing problem. He did and doesn't regret it. He still has my family DNA and has passed that on to his son along with his current surname. His son may face the same problem in the future. The final word, as Shakespeare cited, "A Rose by any other name..." You don't lose your essence just because they don't call you by the former title.
