Edited to add: if you like your books on paper, I recommend the trade paperback format over the mass-market paperback. bigger pages == less obese volume == much easier to hold. I was given a paperback copy of Outlander (which has long since disappeared on long-term loan), and my copies are trade paperback or autographed hardbound.
I do love me some long books (see also Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle).
You might also check if your local library offers e-books as an option. I checked out from the library the latest book in the series and read it. A full-sized hardback at about 850 pages will give your forearms a good workout. After finishing, I noticed that they had a copy available in e-book format, so the lifting would have been a whole lot lighter. Live and learn.

I'm done with Outlander. I've had it with the show after show sex related sceens. Way too much time is dedicated in this area. I haven't read the books but if the show is a close representation, I have no interest in reading the books.

That is a shame, the books are a good read. Book 2 is a little slow in places, but the rest you will not want to put down. Inevitably the TV series loses a lot of detail and some of the scenes are not in the book.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I watched the season premiere last evening and enjoyed it.

I sort of agree with you. Watching women getting raped is not entertaining to me, and makes me cringe. Oddly, I can handle cutting the heads off of zombies on The Walking Dead better. But, the wife likes Outlander, regardless, so we will continue to watch.

So far as I am aware no one has actually been raped so far, though not for lack of trying. However no one complains about people being stabbed to death, shot or flogged, happens every day on the box.

Similar to the STARZ other original series called Black Sails, this historical based series can be so much more entertaining to me if they would just cut out or limit the number of minutes dedicated to “skin”; rape and love making. Honestly, it seems that in every episode Claire is either being raped or is having sex with her husband or both. Is this really necessary for viewership or entertainment?

It's funny to see you comment on that today, as it's the exact same thing I was complaining about last night. There are a lot of really cool shows being made these days, and they have powerful story lines based on very interesting subjects or time periods. But every single one of them seems to waste time on love stories, makeout scenes or sex scenes, etc. It's not that I'm opposed to a love story or a gratuitous 'skin' scene now and then, especially if it's actually important to the plot, but it has become such a predictable part of the "equation" for modern television dramas that it has become stale. It's like the producers think they won't be able to interest anyone in the content of the show unless they dedicate a certain percentage of air time to foreplay/sex. Even when it has absolutely nothing to do with the story. And what's worse is that they're probably correct. They do incredible amounts of research and polls, they know what audiences want, and they use it to boost ratings. Apparently our shallow society demands that this be included in every facet of "entertainment".
Granted, Outlander is based on the books, where the romance angle was very prominent. It's part and parcel to the storyline. But I can't think of any of the epic television series being made these days that don't have the same formula.
