Reinventing ourselves
A trendy expression these days..
In the daily news today an article reported that the dream of owning one's home is giving way to poeple wanting a "seachange". More and more, Australians are changing careers, moving to the country, getting divorced and "reinventing" themselves.
I thought, well that's what I'm doing.
Two years ago a web forum changed my life concerning health and diet.
Last year another forum changed the way I present to the world through the freedom of kilts.
If film stars can reinvent themselves, so can I!
Is this the way you feel you are going by wearing a kilt?

Good morning Graham,
I don't feel I'm "Reinventing" myself by starting wearing a kilt.
I've been in a state of flux most of my life. from jeans and Logging boots, to slacks and western boots, to dickies and running shoes or boot, shorts and sandels and now kilts and boots or sandles.
The only thing that has not changed are the colors I wear; black, grey and darkblue.
My family and friends, not one of them was shocked the first time they saw me in a kilt. But then one day I'd have hair to my belt the next my head would be shorn or shaven.

I know I'm pleasing myself more, now that I'm in my 'prime' so to speak. I hit 40 a few years back and gave myself a good talking to.
I wear what I want, do more or less what I want, and just about say as much as I want.
If I want to wear black harness boots, jeans and a knee length crombie style coat I will.
If I want to wear a kilt and rugby shirt, I will.
Don't much care for what other folk think anymore. You're a long time dead (or possibly I may come back as a slug, which would make wearing a kilt a little difficult.
Have a reinvented myself? Yeah, I suppose I have.

Reinventing?
Throughout my life I have lived, and occasionally almost died , to try new things Now that I'm over 50, comfortable and more able to try new things, I do. I decided I wanted to try wearing a kilt and found out that I love it and will continue to do so.
Reinventing? No I don't think so. More another step on the path of being who I am. To thine own self be true, a motto to live by.
Mike
oh yeah, for those that asked, I posted some pictures.

If it is called reinventing, I guess that is what I am doing. Constantly looking to improve myself and others around me, sometimes a very hard task.
If I in my daily tasks can find an improvement for me I am all for it, and will be open to that improvement.
Along with that improvement comes the responsibility to share some goodness with others. Whether that be a smile, a kind word, or something similar my day is not complete unless that happens.

Not "reinventing", more like "reclaiming myself". I spent a good part of my life trying to conform myself to the worlds expectations. Then I spent some more time trying to come to terms with the fact that I didn't "fit", and then even more time coming to the realization that the "reality" I had been led to believe in didn't exist anymore (if it ever did). Now I'm standing my ground, retaking the name I was given at birth but not "allowed" to use for much of my life, dressing the way I want instead of the way others think I should. Reinventing would imply developing something new for myself but I'm adopting old things that were repressed. That's why I would say I'm reclaiming myself.

I would have to say I am not reinventing myself either. I think it is more like bettering myself. Wearing a Kilt fills me with pride, self esteam, a postive outlook and confidence. Not that all those things aren't a part of my personallity already, but for some reason they get amplified whilst I am Kilted. So I would think that all those things help make me a better person.
That's my .02 cents.
Cheers!

Graham,
Reinvention requires introspection and a process of seeking.
I agree with you.
