Hey Steve,
You and Bear aren't thinking of going into making hand turned wooden kilts, are you?
Rob (who has just had the thought that gusty winds wouldn't be a problem in a wooden kilt)

Wood and Kilts...makes perfect sense to me.
You Northwest guys know that the Indians up there used to make MUGs out of cedar bark.

I looked at a few wooden kilt pins at the Tallahassee Celtic fest. over the weekend and they were very nice. I think the cost was around 20-30$ US. I am sure there was a mark up on the Items as most of the stuff I looked at was marked up a bit.

I'll also queue up to buy a few of these from you, Bear. I'm in the process of getting together the details to order a kilt from you anyway, and would LOVE to be able to get a few wood kilt pins at the same time.
No pressure, though.

I'm just working out the design(s). I haven't decided on one design or a few different designs.

OK, I spent the morning making wooden kilt pins, to see what would be involved. Basically, I figure I can make them and sell them for $20-$25 depending on the kind of wood (cheaper is someone wants to buy in bulk: hint, hint to kilt makers). At the moment I am going to start with Zebra Wood, Purple Heart, and Paduak since that is what I happen to have around. I'll try and have a pic up by Friday (I only have a film camera, so it will take a day or two).

Okay, here's what I've come up with.
I figure I'll sell them individually for $10.00 each. They will be lighter coloured woods, (boxwood, maple, some others for nice grains).
The left pin and the acorn are shapes chosen for their ability to show grains nicely. (Long and sharp or wide and curved.) The castle (okay, rook), just seemed like it fit with kilts. I'll find some bar pins to put on the back.
Opinions?
