    Kilt at Work

Last week, I was priviledged to be involved with a photo-shoot inside The National Trust's Petworth House, near my home. I work at the House as a volunteer Steward, showing our visitors the many works of art collected there over the centuries, and explaining the complexities of the many generations of the families who have occupied the house since 1150.

Cameras are not normally permitted inside the property, but because my daily kilt-wearing is unusual in the South of England, the Property Manager thought that a photo or two of me at work might gain publicity for Petworth, if he could get them accepted for The National Trust's, quarterly glossy magazine.

The photography was done on Saturday and I have been given permission to post three of the photos here. Whether any of those taken will get to appear in the magazine remains to be seen, and even if they do, it may not be until the middle of 2005.

Try as I might, I cannot insert any of the photos into this message, but all three are in my Photo Gallery.

My blue kilt suit is, of course, from TFCK in Edinburgh!

    Take care,
    Ham.

Sorry, Dylan. I cannot get any of the photos to appear here in the message. Look at my Gallery for them.

Gosh! I took early retirement in 1998 so I don't actually work (I was General Manager/Export Manager of England's oldest Perfumery House, in London, for 32 years). Petworth House is one of several hundred historic properties open to the public and administered for the State by The National Trust. At Petworth, 35 volunteers are required each day the house is open, to assist the visitors, to make sure none of the treasures are touched (people DO want to touch everything!) and to provide security - the paintings alone in the house are valued at several million pounds! I am one of those volunteers.
