question about 5 yard woolconstruction

So, first of all, I have been extremely pleased with my recent purchases from The gang here at USA Kilts. I ordered two casual kilts simply from the reviews here on xmarks. German and and American heritage respectively.

So now, naturally, I want another. my question is about the 5 yard wool model, in the description it mentions that it is "lined" but in doing my homework I have come across threads such as http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...de-kilt-86254/

I worry that simply being "lined" with out a stabilizer won't be enough support. unless the lower yardage eliminates the need for it.

I would apreciate hearing from Rocky as well as other owners of the 5 yard model. particularly people who have put some miles on it.

hopefully all my fears will come to nothing and i will be the next proud owner of a Colorado state seal tartan kilt!

I've had my USA Kilts 5-yarder in Douglas Modern for around 4 years; tt's easily my most worn kilt, and it looks just as good as the day it arrived. I also have another 5-yarder from USA Kilts, and more specifically from a "closet cleaning" sale of Rocky's; it, too, looks brand new and I imagine had been very well worn before I purchased it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the usual, additional stabilizing strip sewn into conventionally constructed kilts is needed with these, as the interior portion of the pleats at the small of the back isn't cut away on these models.

Mike is correct. We line the 5 yard wool kilt with a cotton liner, but not any stabilizer b/c the pleats aren't cutaway and the lining takes the brunt of the "load" of your waist pushing out against the buckles. I have about a dozen 5 yarders in my closet constructed this way and have tried and tested the model before selling our first one. I have never had issues with it which is why it's listed in our offerings.

Ok that's all i needed to hear. the low yardage kilt not having the cut-outs makes complete sense. I had a feeling there was nothing to be worried about.

I love my USAKilts 5 yard wool in Celtic Nations. I have had it about 15 months and it looks like the day I got it. I've worn it on several occasions, including two cruises.

I've been to Rocky's store twice and talked with him, at length, both times. He is very serious about quality and about customer service.

On another note, I also have two USAKilts casuals and wear them a lot. My Casual American Heritage is one of my favorite go-to kilts for "everyday" wear.

I have 2 5 yard wool kilts, one 16 oz. and one 13 oz. I love the both. As a matter of fact I'm getting ready to order another.

I have a 5 yard USAK in American Heritage, and one in Albannach. They both wear well and look good. No issues at all. The USAK 5 yarder is a good bargain.

I have to echo what must already be clear, the 5-yarders are great kilts for the price. I have three, two tartan and one tweed, and have had no problems and plenty of compliments on their appearance. Buy with confidence.
