Thanks for that..it was a great lead in to helping me form my opinion Tartan wise and the flic looks excellent...I pulled it up on the internet for a peek and it certainly is classic Alex. Interesting that they chose Scott Hunting for the movie and I find that a neat feature too.
I love military flic's as I spent 33 years on active duty so have a bit of insight as to the psychology of that etc.
Nothing like a slightly mad commander to keep things moving along...or slightly mad Command Sergeant Major as some of my troops might add.

Oh, it is Scott Hunting for sure...just ancient and old (1960's) color movies were not exactly true to color.

Every time I see that movie I want to place an order for a heavyweight pleated-to-the-line kilt in Scott Hunting! The kilts look so good. Oh and a Battledress jacket to go with it.

Oddly, and this for me is an all-time head-scratcher, there's a pipe band called Tunes Of Glory Pipe Band and they don't wear Scott Hunting! Were I in charge that's the first thing I would change. Oh, and Battledress jackets and TOS for all.

Agree on the short jackets too. Always liked the WW2 era Ike Jacket but it fell out of disfavor with the senior military because, unless you were thin, one tended to look like Ralph Cramden..too bad that. .
and I believe you are correct on the Tartan...simply Scott Hunting...the hue's of reddish brown vary by weaver I suspect.

The pipers who appear in the original Tunes Of Glory movie are members of The London Scottish. They were kitted out with Hunting Scott kilts and bag-covers, but retained their own London Scottish grey hair sporrans.

In a notable lapse in "continuity" the pipers who appear at the start of the movie have white hair sporrans.

The modern London Scottish are shown in the clip above wearing the Hunting Scott kilts but their own London Scottish bag-covers (Gordon) and ribbons (blue and white, as I recall).

As to why some are wearing TOS and some Glengarries, well, you'll have to see the movie!

I believe the army uniforms for "Tunes of Glory" were recycled for the 1968 opus "Carry on up the Khyber" as the uniforms for the 3rd Foot and Mouth.
