I wanted it to look bit old and worn, not new, no sharp edges on leather or anything. To me it makes a big difference.

As it is really my only sporran, I don't want to part with it right now, but if you could wait until winter, I could maybe make you one something similar.
(I never have made the same thing twice, close maybe but never the same!)
Farm work is a struggle already so can't commit until after freeze-up.

Yes, it's my first sporran. I had a modern thing and it had no character. I wanted one that looked like great Grandad had used it all his life!...yet wanted to try a non-traditional cantle (wood) and see if I could make it look plausible.
The gun-case was old, and even the "new" leather used for the gusset was some that "Aunt Floss" used for her glove-making, and she died in 1950!

Yes it has one. The nob in the top centre of the cantle is spring -loaded, and must be pulled up to withdraw a 'bolt' that fits into a slot in the rear part of the cantle .
Said bolt is tapered one way, so will just snap shut on its own without having to pull up on knob again. If I get a minute I will take a photo of it for you.

Your sporran is intrinsically beautiful on every possible level in my view. You achieved everything you set out to in a very admirable way. I love the fact that the interior is "unfinished", to use your word. I prefer organic, or in the rough. It adds greatly to the homespun feel of the whole.

I would be delighted and honoured to make one of your sporrans part of my heirloom kit.

The old leather had already lived longer than me, Mike. Very much a case of use what I had, as I don't like things looking too new!

I think I have some of the old glove leather left. In fact sure I do. The gun -case might be used up, but I will find something very much the same!
