Practically everything I've seen and read here on xmarks has influenced my kilted style in some way.

This being the Contemporary sub-forum, I'd be interested to know (and see!) how the historical and traditional photos above have influenced people's modern style of kilt attire?

This advertising photo made me realize that sporrans were not a requirement and that vests could hold more "stuff" more comfortably while showing off more tartan.

Xmarks THCD generally, but I allow to a certain extent, single colours, as other threads have shown some Single colour / tweeds are not modern.
There are too many pictures On Xmarks, to quote.
The other biggest influence is of course how much the Bank of SWMBO allows me to spend!

I echo what CMcG wrote. How do photographs and paintings from the previous century affect how you wear your kilt in a CONTEMPORARY way? After all, this is the

The first thing I ever saw that made me think..."Hmmmm..maybe I could wear something like that."
was seeing Mike Mullen on stage with the Celtic Rock group, "Tempest" back around 2007.

Here's Mike, today. - black Utilikilt.

I suspect the reason for the old photos and paintings is because the OP posted one as his example .
Perhaps his thread is in the wrong " sub forum " .... no crime in that ... I'm sure we have all been guilty of that at some point .
Do note , this member is relatively new ... let's not scare him off .

I think its a good question, a very good question in fact, whichever section it goes in, as it applies to us all to some extent. I am however, very interested to read the comments from contemporary kilt wearers and note that few have ventured a comment, thus far. Perhaps pictures have not really had an influence? So what has?

I would like to say the Lawson whisky adverts. But i'm a little too portly.
Apart from that, regimental photos for height (wet kilt doesn't impact the back of the knees) Duke of Cornwall for style.
