    Is it effective?

I have met no Jehovah Witnesses on my door steps after one day I opened my door to a pair of them and said: "Please come an other day, today I am too tired to convert you." That was some five years ago.

Effective? Well, of course I don't know how many people leave without ringing, but a couple of times I've found people leaving and laughing. If nothing else, it's fun for our visitors.

Love your sign, Father Bill! I'd listen to your sermon any day...with tea and biscuits, of course!

I have the family Bible which is printed in Hebrew and Greek only. I was given this beautiful Bible because I was the only one who studied both languages.

I had an in depth discussion with 4 Jehovah's Witness 'leaders' where I showed them the correct translation from Greek into English. I remembered the conjugations but was glad I still had the translation dictionaries - this was before the days of the computer. The passage in their booklet was incorrectly translated and meant exactly the opposite of what was written in the Bible.

I would never try to break down someones' beliefs. As long as they are based on truth, we can have a wonderful discussion, even if we don't agree on the interpretation. After that visit, the gentleman who had been the initial contact returned a year later and thanked me for helping him see why he had felt so uncomfortable in the JW. He had joined because his wife had been searching for something, and he wanted to support her. After she passed, he was floundering. His faith was very different and deep down he knew that he needed something else. He left the JW and returned to the church in which he was raised and was very happy until he passed a few years ago.

I didn't see another JW until I moved five years later. When they visited, I introduced myself, asked them to say hello to the leaders, mentioning a few their names, and said I would welcome them into my home again for another discussion.

I have never had another visit.

Now my kids have mentioned my name when they have had the JW at their door, saying that they, too, would love to meet with their leaders...it is amazing how they have never had a return visit - which is good, because they are all fluent in French, one also in German, but none have studied Hebrew or Greek!

If I get a phone call, I'll tell them to use a translation website...this brain is getting slower...

Priceless sign, Father. The question is, which is scarier, the Lab or the sermon?

Love Shakespeare, but I'll have to leave that one to you, Geoff, I must have missed school that day...

If I know dogs a Labrador would only be scary if you were food!

We don't get JW round any more, my wife pretended to be national spiritualist, (which her mother was) which for some reason they don't like and left in a hurry.

Love the sign, FB... :-) Especially the part about conversion to Anglicanism. Lol.

For all the rabble, though, as much as I may too enjoy a good JW-at-the-door story (since I have a few of my own), might I caution everyone, that this does stray uncomfortably close to Rule #5 territory.

How close? It wouldn't take much for someone to take objection to how JWs are being depicted in a post and flag it for that reason.

    Please proceed carefully.
