I am afraid that "Tourist Board hype" is coming back to haunt us all in Scotland. I am not in the least bit surprised at the comments and of course those are not everyone's view, but------. Please don't mis-understand me, I am very proud of much of Scotland and it does have much to offer the visitor and without a doubt it is a very beautiful place. However, Scotland has become an over-sold, over-priced disappointment for many which is sadly the inevitable result of cynical mis-selling for well over a century. I have been hearing mutterings from visitors in this vein for too many years now, to be surprised.

I think people have forgotten or never learned to take in the history or beauty of places. I believe that is because today's society wants constant stimulation and to be entertained. I live in Nevada a high desert, but people hear "Nevada" and they think Las Vegas. They never get out and explore the desert and learn to appreciate it. There are ghost towns, The ruins of Fort Churchill along the Pony Express trail, Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I believe travelling is a great learning and teaching experience.

Obviously written by rather disgusting clods whose only wish is to be served and pampered. Having been to so many of these wonderful locations, the joy is in the beauty and the stories. They're not there for the entertainment of the unschooled.

From the writers attitude, I would bet this is an annoying person - bitch, bitch bitch. The kind I would never send to the good places to ruin others enjoyment. I have sent a few on long goose chases in New Mexico just so they will "move along, nothing to see here".

You're making me a little homesick there, Father Bill. My Grandpa kept a wooden yacht (sailboat) called the Mairi Bhan on Loch Lomond when I was a boy and we often ate at the Inchmurrin Hotel. One summer when I was eight or nine we camped for weeks on Inchmoan (another of the islands), going home on the odd weekend to clean clothes and resupply. All within 25 miles of where I grew up.
