Kilted Fridays Adventures

Last Friday, I kilted up and went to a local pub for karaoke and visiting with friends, some I have known for a while and some are brand new. I was asked if I had a "reason" for the kilt. I simply replied that I was in the mood to wear it. That satisfied the questioner. I had several nice comments about the kilt and no rude comments. So it was a fun evening all around. A few individuals took pics, but I forgot my phone so I did not get any. I am hoping one of them might sent their picture to me. Anyway, it was most enjoyable.

Today marks a year of pantless Fridays for me, or near enough that I'm going to claim it since I didn't start out to set any sort of record.

My photo luck is still not good. A week ago (6 - 27 - 15), I went to a Renaissance Faire with a couple I have known for some years now. I wore my kilt, complete with a new "highland shirt." I know it is not historically accurate, but it looked good. LOL--My buddy, David, wore his kilt and a similar shirt. I am not sure which tartan his was, but it was nice. Anyway, this time I took my phone and had Sheila, his wife, take photos. All three came out too dark to see the kilts. But we had a great day anyway.

This past Friday (7 - 3 - 15), I was in Madison, Indiana. I saw a man wearing a kilt standing on the side walk and then turn and enter an antique shop. I hurried over to try to talk with him, but the shop was closed for the day due to an emergency.

So, if anyone here lives in Madison, Indiana and is connect to an antique shop downtown, you looked great in your kilt. Just wish I could have spent some time talking with you.

I kilted up in the Irish-American, navy blue collared shirt, and black hoses. I took my mother to Texas Roadhouse for her early Birthday dinner today. As I entered the building, and there was a nice old couple. He lit up after seeing my kilt. Kept saying it's marvelous! I never thought I'd see a kilt again ever. We chatted a bit. Found out he moved to America from Scotland many years ago. He doesn't wear a kilt himself. He asked me if I was a Scot visiting America. I told him I'm a %100 American. He looked surprised as I told him there are the bunch of us here in Canada, and the US that do wear kilts on a regular basis. He asked nicely if he can take a picture of us together. Of course I can't say no to that. Hopefully, that will make him to rethink, embrace the true Scottish heritage, and start wearing a kilt again.

I started the day in my USA Kilt semi-trad in XMTS tartan for my day job. Later I changed into a Tactical 5.11 for a fast drive to Annapolis to hear the Celtic bands playing at their Irish Festival. An awesome Kilted Friday!

A lovely experience that likely would not have happened had you been wearing pants. Wearing my kilt also magically, and frequently, brings the expatriate or visiting Scotsmen (and Scotswomen) out of the woodwork. It always makes for a pleasant encounter and is one of the best reasons to kilt up as often as possible....

I'm a bit ashamed to say I did not get kilted up today, but did yesterday, as I have recently--and FINALLY--acquired not one, but TWO extremely nice, very gently pre-worn, pure wool Lamont kilts, one Ancient, the other Weathered (Lamont is actually my given name, and my surname is a sept of Lamont--pure coincidence, mind you, I'm sure my parents had absolutely no idea). The former included matching ribbon flashes, the latter included a matching piper's plaid, and each cost only US$90.00! God Bless eBay! Will try to post photos of myself in them as soon as possible...

My Scottish Wildcat tartan kilt by Bill Sanderson debuted for its first kilted Friday. The photo is how I dressed for work today. At day’s end I met my sweetie at Park Lane Tavern. On my walk there passing another outside bistro I heard a wolf whistle. But I paid no attention as I had my eye on the beautiful brunette chatting on her smart phone sitting on bench who had locked eyes on me. She give me a big smile using her free hand to swipe an expressive gesture saying with an Italian accent, “beautiful!”

A good Kilted Friday.
