altering pleats

Hello, I've searched the threads and haven't found the answer to my question. I have a lamont kilt pleated to the sett. Is there a possibility I can ship my kilt somewhere to have it redone so it's pleated to the line? If so, where? And is it economically feasible?

It depends on if the kilt was made in the usual way, with the pleats cut out beneath the canvas. Most knife pleated kilts are made that way. If so, then no, the tartan is missing from these cut-out areas and there is no remaking possible. If however it is a very cheaply made kilt they may not have cut out the pleats and then a remake could be possible.

Detach a bit of the lining, lift the canvas, and peek underneath. You'll quickly see if the pleats are intact beneath the canvas.

And quite honestly? Even if the pleats aren't cut out (which they probably are) and you could find a kiltmkaker who would do this for you, the labor is MUCH more than making a kilt from scratch because the kiltmaker would have to take the kilt completely apart before re-making it. If you hired a good kilmaker to do this for you, you should expect to pay at least half again as much as the labor for a new kilt, and more likely twice as much. You'd be better off selling this kilt and ordering a new one.
