    New Texas fest

Hey rabble, giving everyone a reminder of the Celtic Festival in Ingram, TX (outside of Kerrville) coming up on August 15 & 16. It's new and small and can use the support. Details on the website. Come and play along...

Thanks for the reminder. Let's hope this new festival is a success. I'll see you there on the 15th.

My sister is the editor of the Hill Country Sun newspaper, which is widely distributed in the Texas Hill Country. I mentioned the festival to her, and she had one of her writer's do a story on the event, which I'm hoping will help spread the word.

You can see the article here: http://issuu.com/hillcountrysun/docs...ry-sun-aug2015

The story starts on page 6. Use the slider on the lower right of the page to zoom in as necessary.

I'll be there to support this new venture, and hope to see many of the Texas regulars there as well.

    Cheers,

    New Texas fest

Really? Texas in August? In kilts? I know it's the hill country, but how tall are these hills? I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from attending, and I've never been to that part of Texas, (hope to visit San Antonio someday,) but I'm just sayin'........................................

I don't reckon it'll be much hotter than the Texas Scottish Festival, when they used to hold it in June... I remember it being 104°F at that event a few times when I attended. It was hot, but not intolerable.

That said, I think that played a large part in the decision made to move the TSF to May...

We'll see how it goes. Definitely no tweeds or bonnets at this event!

We're Texans and won't let a little warm weather stand in the way of having a good time!

No doubt! Being originally from El Paso myself, (army brat,) I certainly understand. Was the place just booked in cooler times of the year? In Georgia we push the fun off to the third weekend in October every year.

The Scottish festivals in Texas usually occur during the months of March through May, with one in November. The November event is one of our favorites, especially because the weather is usually pleasant. I've wondered why more aren't scheduled in the cooler months, but it's probably down to competing events in the various areas.

    Coordination - cooperation

I've been the "fly on the wall" for several conversations between the organizers of the major events in Texas. They "try not to step on each others toes" when they schedule their events. Of course the older the event - TX Ren Faire - the better the time/weather (Nov-Dec), Sherwood Forest Faire - wet and cold (Feb-Mar), San Antonio Games - cold/wet/cool/hot - typical Texas. Texas is Texas - don't like the weather - wait 15 minutes it will change! The 2014 North Texas Irish Festival was "iced out!" Look at it as a test of our toughness - who else would wear a wool kilt in 100 degree temperatures other than a Scot!! Wear a hat and drink liquids Keep cool and enjoy!

    Yup, gonna be hot!

    Thanks for the support guys!

We kind of had to go with this time frame because it was "available". It started a few years ago as a demo for some local athletes and has gone from there. If it's a success, and there's room, we might change the dates. Right now......its on!

    See you there!
