Lady Grey, I would love to see the final product of this “purple tartan with silver threads that will be a mini kilt with a bustle!”

    Shall do Mike
    It's gonna be loud.....
However since it has flat aprons, pleats (probably box pleats) and wraps around the body it is a Kilt and I won't be told otherwise!

The Ashes has started! I'm trying my hand at hand stitching a kilt while I watch.
Are any XMarkers attending any of the matches in a Kilt?

And I have no idea why my picture are the wrong way around
I heard there are some Australian cricket bats for sale, never been used.

    All out?

    for 60?

    . . . oh . . .

I spent yesterday with Steve and Kilted Knome learning heaps more in the premises of Freedom Kilts. And in the passenger seat of the big dark blue cat on a tour of the City of Gardens. I'd better start buying a lottery ticket so I can come back some time with my good lady.

But not during an Ashes tour. It's too . . .

    it's just too

A little while ago I was at the Cheltenham Festival - the cricket one. For those who haven't been there Gloucestershire play two championship matches each year at the College Ground. It is a major occasion, one of the highlights of the summer. It is a quintessentially English scene; well attended, with a ring of marquees, good food and drink in abundance, with the splendid old College chapel and a range of Regency buildings at the back, with the line of the Cotswolds beyond. The weather was fine and sunny and the cricket held interest all day.

I had been conversing occasionally with some around, discussing this and that about the game in progress. Shortly before the end, a man sitting nearby got up to leave and, on his way out, said to me, "you're the smartest man in the ground." Naturally, I supposed this to be a reference to the comments I had made now and again during the course of the day. So for a minute or two I basked in the belief that our friend had recognized the incisiveness of my remarks and the breadth of my knowledge. What a percipient chap he was, I thought! What smug self-satisfaction deluded my mind! However, suddenly another idea dawned on me. Perhaps it was a comment on the kilt I was wearing (Caledonia tartan).

    For Mike

Well the men lost the Ashes, the women won the Ashes
Clarke is gone, we're winning this one... And of course the Kilt matches the shoes!

I like it, and I think my daughter would approve (even though she says she dislikes tartan just because I am so keen on it!).
    Well done, Lady Grey.

About the Ashes, no comment from me. But my anglophile wife (her father and maternal grandmother were born in England) is very pleased.

I hope, dear Lady, that there is a bonnet to go with this fine suit (thinking of Polo match attendants) and a fine tradition of racing in Kentucky (The Running of the Roses). Would seem a waste to swoon under a blazing sun wearing such a fetching outfit (unless one was to be rescued by the arm of a dashing batter), then a parasol might be fitting and easily set aside.
