I kind of like the almost checkerboard pattern that ended up on the pleats. Makes for an interesting kilt.

First thought; this opens up new "tartan patterns" from an "untouched" continent to many, many potential wearers who may feel a close affiliation there with.

One more indicator, evolution of the kilt is by no means at an end.
