Congratulations on your choice. You're getting a wonderfully made heavy wool kilt in with a great colour palette, pleated to the stripe like a lot of military kilts. In any formal setting, there will be no mistaking the quality. And this single quality piece will certainly fit with a wide variety of less formal options as well. A great addition to any wardrobe.

I plan on both hunting and making formal addresses kilted....altho probably not in a royal setting unless I can sneak in the back door....

To properly answer your question -

The answer is YES!!!. There are no kilt kops, there are no written down, set in stone, rules about this. There really is no right or wrong.

There are some things that don't make much sense or which we usually do or don't do out of habit or common sense but not because there is some rule about it.

And if my answer so far has not convinced you consider this.

An ancient version of a Tartan and a Modern version of the same Tartan, ARE THE EXACT SAME TARTAN! The official thread count is all that matters. In a thread count if there is Green in the Tartan we use the letter "G". We don't specify what color Green. Just Green. All the versions are fully correct as long as you have Green.

Except weathered Henderson which is BROWN! Why Lochcarron did this I do not know. House of Edgar's muted green is much better, but they don't weave it in heavyweight, the best weight for an outdoor kilt.

Actually much of the Red in Scott Hunting is also muted to a brick brown and that's the reason I chose it. I like the subdued appearance.
This is from Scott Red Modern that is nice but a bit 'Christmasy' for my taste.

Yes the red Scott looks fabulous in Lochcarron weathered colors, that brick red looks great, but it's still a shade of red. Blue is a beautiful color as well and if only the weathered Henderson retained green in it's coloring I'd be all over it like a rash. It doesn't look quite so bad in tartans like Black Watch which have more blue in them.

Here's my choice and done Scott hunting sett to stripe.
It's 16 oz. 8 yd all hand stitched Freedom Kilt......the only kilt I'll carry/wear I suspect

Beautiful kilt! A great choice. That would look equally fantastic casual at a Games, formal at a Ball, or anytime.

(and... it looks fantastic with a Battledress jacket...)
