I thought it was a pretty cool video. The music was sort of Rare Air-ish so it wasn't all bad !

Welcome to Xmarks and thanks for the posting.

I'd like to see comments from our resident kilt makers as to the quality they see/do not see in the video.
Is that canvas stout enough for a tank?

There are many videos out there on kiltmaking. Some are good and some are terrible. For me I would never watch this more than once because of the camera work, the editing and that annoying soundtrack. I would certainly not use this as a course in kiltmaking. That is not what it is. It was made to give a quick overview or 'behind the scenes" of this particular kiltmaker. It is advertisement.

There are many ways to make a kilt. This is one way. It is not the only, or the right way.

Some of the words used are different than the words used by other kiltmakers. Some of the techniques such as the buckle adjuster buckle are unique to this kiltmaker.

About your question on the canvas. The Hair canvas does not provide horizontal strength to the kilt. It provides vertical stiffness sort of like the boning in a ladies corset. The stabilzer is what gives the kilt the strength horizontally. I did not see any stabilizer but then they may have not shown that on purpose. (trade secrets and all that) They chose instead to spend a lot of time showing how to make loops which many kilts don't even have.

As I said it is an advertisement for this particular kiltmaker and not a course in kiltmaking.
