Collection Begins
So I just purchased a 1948 Thomas Gordon and Sons kilt and now just picked up a 1941 Scottish bonnet / TAM O' SHANTER.
Hope to have both by the end of the month.
I am pretty clueless about this whole kilt thing right now, but I thought what the heck.
Here is how I am thinking about dressing for an upcoming Celtic festival.
Bottoms - Highlander Kilt
Head - Tam O' Shanter (1941)
Shirt - WW2 US army shirt (1942)
Boots - WW2 black German army boots (1942)
I needs socks and probably a belt and a bag.
I know I will not look legit, but I think I will look pretty legit to non kilt wearing history buffs. There will be a lot of beer flowing, so I will look better and better as the day progresses.
Off Topic - For Halloween I am dressing up as a WW2 sailor and my wife as a sexy WW2 sailor/flapper or something like that.

End,
Congratulations on your purchases. You are well on your way to becoming addicted to kilts and everything related to them. Do not worry. You will find lots of support here on X Marks. We all are addicted and love enabling others. Enjoy your time at the Celtic fair. And, by the way, better make more room in your closet; you will need it.

Well that outfit would be just about as eclectic as one could get, and stay within the WWII military time-frame.
I've done the other way, getting very specific, only purchasing Black Watch things.

Yeah I a pretty excited about the upcoming event. We had lots of fun last year, not wearing any kilts, so this year should be even better.

Here's my growing collection of Black Watch-style things.
The jacket is badged as WWII, Highland Division, 154 Brigade, either 1st or 7th Black Watch.
