I bought this Large Belt Pouch from Rocky to carry my pipe and smoking stuff.
It was too much in the sporran with the other stuff.
    http://www.usakilts.com/kilt-accesso...t-pouches.html

It's 6.5" wide, 5" tall and 1.75" thick by my measure

I did replace the lower belt strap rivets with snaps so that I get it on and off without unbelting.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

I've never needed anything beyond my sporran (which is very roomy) but then again I'm not wearing my kilts while working on a ranch!

My sporran is plenty big for the stuff I carry around (while kilted or no) which isn't much: wallet, keys, change pouch, and humongous phone (it's kinda embarrassing). With that stuff in there, I still have room for a bottled water and what-not.

With the Pipe Band I have to wear their sporran, which is the traditional ordinary size. I end up using the pockets of the Band waistcoat to hold stuff that won't fit in the sporran.

Anyhow here's the sporran I usually wear, shown with the sort of stuff I might have out at a Highland Games (except for the phone, which is taking the photo!)

This stuff pretty much disappears inside

How about a bit more of a challenge? A bottled water and a big bottle of beer (11" tall and 9" in circumference)

No prob! Both can go in easily (the bottled water can go much further in that it is here)

    The sporran in action

I live on a half-a**ed ranch and there's things that need cut that the Leatherman isn't quite up to, that and this way I've a blade kept very sharp in the Leatherman and another for cutting stuff that dulls knife blades ever so quickly. Besides as Logan Ninefingers will tell you, you can't have too many knives. (See _The Blade Itself_, Joe Abercrombie)

For a long time I also carried a Leatherman with the knife blade removed so I could take it on airplanes. So it became habit to have the knife when not on airplanes. A TSA agent now has that one. Apparently you can hijack airplanes with a pair of pliers too and a fold-out screwdriver.
Pipers often carry a belt pouch as often their Horsehair Sporran doesn't have a pouch on the back. These are Belt Pouches: http://www.usakilts.com/kilt-accesso...t-pouches.html

EDIT: HAHAHA... Chuck beat me to the link!

Rocky's stuff looks great. In my searches for a solution to the same problem, I found this seller on eBay.

    Looks like really good craftsmanship.

It is my understanding that the early Irish kilters wore belt pouches as they felt the sporran was "too Scottish" and wanted to create a unique form of "traditional" dress. Even today it's rare to see an Irishman wear a saffron kilt and a sporran. It's similar to how there's a distinctive Welsh ysgrepan which is evidently based on the Scottish model but made differently. So belt pouches are already quite common and even "traditional" if you're Irish.

I too carry many things with me. My sporran is large enough to fit all the items you mentioned (pus a few more) but the problem with that is the weight in one spot suspended. I did not like that, so In my sporran goes my wallet, car keys, phone, change purse, etc. Then I do indeed have another pouch on my belt. My knife usually goes in my sock, and your flashlight should fit in the other one. Another method in emlplore is putting items in your shirt or a vest. Pee ants have made us getting used to putting everything there, but a nice vest with a few discreet pockets not only makes the kilt look nice, but gives you a good place to put items.
Now, if this is every day mucking about I can personally recommend a 5.11 vest as it has 26 pockets, more than enough to put anything you want, but for a dressier look, then I can't offer any suggestions there as I am looking doe a nice, not hot vest to go with my kilts when me and the wife go out on a date and I do welcome any suggestions on that front.

I don't know if I would ever need that many pockets, but for sure the two pockets on most vests isn't enough sometimes.

I'd like to find a vest that looks just like the black waistcoats that most Pipe Bands wear but has four roomy pockets in front rather than two. It's when I'm out at a Highland Games with the band, wearing the small band sporran, that I need more room.

P'raps find a seamstress and have a pocket put across the inside small of the back?
Hm. Maybe not. Just a thought.

Years ago I put what I carry on a diet because I was wearing my pockets out before the trousers showed much wear.
Out in the wild I need all the stuff and wear cargo pocket modern kilts. Heavy items carry a lot easier from the side pockets than up front bouncing around as I walk.
In town I only carry what I will use. The "might needs" I keep handy in my truck.
For walking with the dog, I have a dedicated sporran to carry the treats and cleanup stuff.
My ungainly key ring I suspend with a carbineer from my belt keeper loop with traditional kilts. The ring separates so that for more formal occasions he smaller "vital" keys ring fits nicely in the sporran with the wallet.
