The right jacket for my body type

I am curious to get your advice on day wear jacket styles for my body type. I am short (5'6"), and have a medium build. My arms and legs are slightly short... I wear a 40S jacket. I am comparing two jacket styles at USA Kilts: the Argyll and a three-button jacket. I plan to wear with or without a waistcoat. Would a three button look odd?

Is the intent formal or business wear (semi-formal in some circles).
One thing I learned back a while ago is that body type is only one factor in a well tailored garment. Off the rack - yes, definately imposes constraints and restraints on choice.

Let's say general. Not formal, but suitable for day or late afternoon, or possibly a casual evening... understated. I would definitely go dark, to de-emphasize my height.

I'm only slightly taller at 5'8", but wear the same jacket size, interested to see what the replies are myself!

I agree with dark for the color and I think three buttons would not seem too busy, less formal or make one look shorter. This is an era where jackets are being forgone (in some cases) to rolled up sleeves. Any jacket will work if it is cut for a kilt. I hope you find one that will compliment the colors of your kilt.
