My condolences to you and your family.

I like #2, accessorized as Liam suggests. It would fit the solemnity of the occasion, and have a military-like look that would tie in with his military burial.

However, it is your family. And you would know best what they would appreciate.

It is the funeral of a close relative. I'd wear the Black Argyle jacket and a black or dark tie.

My condolences to you and your family, as well.

As your grandfather likely served in one of the branches of the military, I thank your family for his service to our country.

As to attire: I concur with option #2 or #3, leaning more towards #2 and accessorized as mentioned.

Thank you all for your condolences, sympathies, and advice. My grandfather was a sailor in WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. He was a honorable, Godly man; he will be greatly missed but I have assurance that I will see him again.

I think I will go with #2, and accessorized as suggested. If I get a picture, I'll post.

    Thank you all again.

My sympathies to you and you family for your loss,

Given the choice, personally I'd wear the Argyll Jacket (and Black tie) for the dinner and as the funeral is with Military Honours, quickly change to 1A for the Funeral.

As for the Argyll for the next appropriate funeral , I'm intending to temporarily cover the silver buttons with black cloth to take some of the "bling" away.

My sympathies as well. I agree that option 2 gives you the best flexibility. I would probably do as The Q suggests and change into uniform for a military funeral, but time and logistical constraints come to bear.
