I will be interested to hear what you decided to wear and hope that you may be able to share some photos.

While I like a balmoral personally, with the constant on/off-on/off the glen I would think would be easier to stow on your person when boarding the ships repeatedly.

Well the park's "Holiday" at sea event has come and gone. Here is a picture of what I wore. I am afraid that I broke most of the rules of THCD as put forth on this site.
1. I wore a Glengarry
2. I wore a fly plaid
3. I wore a rouche tie
4. I wore white hose
5. I wore matching tartan flashes
But, in my defense, I got compliments going to, while at, and coming home from the event. (I took the bus to and from the event)

Ha, well at least you knew the "rules" before you broke them. Hope you had a great day. Beautiful kilt, BTW.

Is the glengarry really more formal than the balmoral? Since when? I ask out of pure interest, nothing more.

Jock, I think that a Glengarry (not worn as often by the public as other loose and soft hats) in America, suggests authority or official capacity. Pipe bands and soldiers are seen with them more and usually obtain the publics attention. That is how I view your query.

Looks great! Love the tie - rouche tie looks similar to the cravat, different name for the same thing?

Jock, maybe "official" would be a better word than formal, since, as Tarheel says, they are more often seen on the heads of pipers and military personnel.
