According to the STA, the sett has been a Wilson family tartan since 1780, which is older than most clan tartans. Were I the OP, I would wear it with great pride.

Thank you for your comments O'Callaghan, I always welcome every view point with interest.

I would agree with most of what you said. However, I do not believe, I ever said that Wilson was a Clan, nor that I was related in any way to the Wilson family of Bannockburn. As far as the Wilson Tartan goes, I love the colour and sett of the tartan and share a common name with the originator but no blood ties. That being said, most Clan members will not have blood ties to their Clan Chief either, but that doesn't stop them from adopting the tartan as their own.

Personally, my family (grandparents on both sides) have Scottish connections to the Wilson's in Caithness and McFarlan's (spelt that way) in Dunbartonshire. So, I suppose I could claim ties to Clan Gunn or Clan MacFarlane - and possibly will buy both those tartans at a later date.

Not that I need a connection. I also have tartans in McDonald Modern and Ramsay Blue because I love the colours. However, I do feel a stronger pull towards tartans that hold more significant meaning to me.

A BIG thank you to everyone for your comments... they were most welcome. I made the right choice with your help. This won't be my last woolen kilt however... I have the bug - lol !!!!!!

    Which kilt to get

HI , I don't have a Scottish family or clan . I like so many of the Tartans. So I just go with what I like. I mostly wear to ren faires so I got one called the pirate tartan which is black, grey and white from sports kilt. Since my wife and I go as pirates to the ren faire. So go with what you like the best is my suggestion. And I love your wedding picture you both look great.
