Another alternative for the sporran would be (assuming it's on a strap, not a chain) to slide it over onto your left hip while you're playing. Watch the drummers in pipe bands. Many of them slide theirs around out of the way (usually on their right hip.)

Todd, is that a Rickenbacker 12 string with the compact headstock of 6 tuners each side? Fabulous guitar.

Yep, I've owned four of them over the years, but settled on these two as keepers. The red one is a '91 and the blonde one was built a couple years later. As an old Byrds fan from the sixties, they were always my favorite guitar, despite spending most of my time playing bass. You can hear them here on some stuff I multi-tracked in my office when I was supposed to be working. The first tune is even Scottish...sort of....

I carry a bag on a strap on my left hip most of the time when I am off at Sidmouth folk festival week, as I carry a drum on the right - as most of the drummers carry it to the left and want to be on the far left of the group of musicians, and it not mattering much to me.
I also play a Texan Framus - the narrow neck suits my small hands.

I would also consider, along with sliding the sporran to one side or the other ala drummers to consider wearing a Leather sporran strap over The "typical Leather & chain belts that are so common
