Having had a D C Dalgliesh tartan fabric used by Bonnie Heather Greene to make a custom kilt, thoughts come to mind.
* DC Dalgliesh's tartan weave fabric is superb quality
* Bonnie Heather Greene's kiltmaking is superb
* the end product is superb, NO regrets
COMPLETE agreement with Barb and Anne, paraphrased; do your research, deal with TOP NOTCH people. You will have this garment for a long time and it will "represent" you. Patiently save the extra amount needed, with patience and reap the rewards for decades.
To as best as possible requite an oulde sage:
"The momentary elation of low price soon fades; the contentment of owning superior quality lingers."

If not, it sounds like short lengths are more of a possibility than I thought!
Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion but I think if anything I'll just get the cloth from the Wales Tartan Centre, it is the cheapest option.
