    Another interesting question at work

Well, thought I'd share a brief ( no pun intended ) encounter while being kilted at work.

Let us set the stage here......I was at work at one of the hardware big-box stores on a busy Saturday. Lots of folks wanting help in finding what they're looking for. About mid afternoon a young lady, fairly sharply dressed, approaches me and stops to ask a question. Facing me she said, " Sir, do you have large ball bearings", ar which time a look came across her face in realizing what she had just asked a man wearing a kilt. Naturally I wanted to respond with a catchy little phrase such as " Miss, it takes a rather bold woman to ask a kilted man if he has large ball bearings", but I refrained and remained in cool composure. You could tell she was in almost a panic, realizing what she had said. I simply responded, with a smile, " Miss, I do not believe "we" have any large ball bearings, but I'd be glad to show you where the ones we have are"....at which time I escorted the red-faced, embarrassed woman to the drawers in a cabinet were she could regain her composure. All the while laughing in my mind as to the position she had placed herself in...LOL. Another True Story.

Another interesting story from the trenches (your work). I guess that most people see you kilted in the store and assume that it is a specialty shop that provides such things as "large ball bearings."

    Bless their hearts.

    Engineer geek mentality sidetrack...

...should not someone looking for something as "not normal run-of-the-aisle hardware" as ball bearings, ask for them by specific diameter?

    Kilt on!

I agree. The school boy in me is laughing, the grown gentleman feels bad for her, she was clearly mortified. I'd like to think I could come up with a response that would best preserve her dignity like you did, but history indicates my attempt would probably backfire.

Why does wearing a kilt bring up these thoughts? I would hate to think that every time I wore a kilt, that was the only idea others had.

It's gotta be the myth about all Scots men wearing nothing but their ball bearings beneath their kilts... funny story lol

You showed great fortitude in not responding with, "Why yes, would you like for me to show them to you."

And there was no mention of brass anywhere in the request, either. Professionalism for the win.
