Socks / Hose

Here I'm wearing Shooting Socks very much like the ones in the photo there.

As Jock says they're longer than need be for kilt hose, and the tops have to be worn double-folded.

I think Jock is probably right that patterned tops are the big difference between hose and socks.

Early in my kilt wearing career, I bought some House of Cheviot kilt hose from buyakilt, a line they have discontinued. I like them very much, they are nice and thick and to my mind stylish.

I subsequently bought the pair I’ve shown above from Gordon Nicholson, who must be of impeachable reputation among kilt wearers, I’d imagine. I think they were shooting socks, but sold in Canongate they become kilt hose.

I like O C Richards’ socks. What are the garters?

For some reason, I wanted to put two ayes on the above post, but it wouldn't let me.

House of Cheviot hose and garter ties are my favorite hose almost to the point of not bothering with my others.
They look good, and they hold up well. I am kilted several times a week, probably about 80% of my forays, and
am still happy with the first pair I got. I wear garter ties most of the time, just because I like them.
