White Cockade?
I've read that white cockades were used as a symbol of the Jacobite cause. I'm curious if these are ever work in modern times, either as a symbol of allegiance to the modern Scottish independence movement or as a nod to hereditary association with the Jacobite cause? I'm intrigued by the idea, as it both would stand out from a stylistic consideration and also be an acknowledgment of my family history who came the the America's after the Battle of Culloden, having fought on the losing side. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't slightly drawn to the slightly anti-establishment tone of it as well.

You'll have to be very careful here , here as if you bring the subject into modern times then you are straying into the realm of politics which is not discussed in this forum....

I was unaware of that guideline, sorry. As you've probably noticed, I'm new here so I'm still learning the ropes. So if we take away my mention of the Scottish Nationalist movement and couch it completely in historical terms, is that a fair topic of conversation? Perhaps a Mod can offer some wise council?

The House of Stuart lost the throne of the United Kingdom because of its alleged wish to impose an absolute monarchy.
I don't see how supporting it is anti-establishment. It was just another establishment.

Although if you want to honour your Jacobite ancestors, wearing the white cockade is a rather nice idea.
It's not like waving a Confederate flag in the USA, which still has contemporary conotations.
What's Scottish independence got to do with it? The Stuarts wanted to be monarchs of the whole UK. That's why their Highland supporters marched South as far as Derby before giving up.

Well said Jonathan, I could not agree more. I am afraid the OP completely misinterprets the historical and modern facts and is substituting wishful thinking instead. I am afraid to say, that is something some of our friends across the Atlantic have a habit of doing.

Thank you Jock. We've just had a nice partridge for supper. I wonder if you shot it?

So have we, I love them to eat! I suppose I may have been responsible for your supper, who knows?

In this case, you! OP means Original Poster----the chap who posts the first post in a thread. We all have to learn and I am still learning, so worry not!
